Open Question: Will someone please look at this essay and tell me how to correct it?....I need to make it more flowing, and make more sense. Or if you suggest to take a new direction, please do so. College Writing 1 Rebecca Binau Art, referentially, is the expression and product of someone's creativity. In specifics, art brings individuality. Someone may draw animals and the other may draw people. Someone may sing about overcoming depression and someone else might sing about their homeland. They'll sing with unique voices, but they can still sing. Everyone has the ability to sing. Anyone, with enough practice, can draw and paint pictures. People all over the world recognize and relate to different art forms, and it's the universal language to our society now and society many years ago. Perhaps, that's why people bond so easily. Rosanne Cash, the daughter of the legendary country singer Johnny Cash, is a firm believer in the thought of art being responsible for the strong bonds between people. She even said that, " …and I came to realize how a shared passion forges deep bonds between people, defining a family more deeply than blood connection alone can do." Her family was full of musicians; they toured the American road for many years. When Rosanne was a young girl and just out of high school, her father took her on the road with him and his band mates. She watched him perform, sang with him on the bus between cities and venues. Seeing her father with his music gave her a chance to see a side of him that she never had before. She spent two and a half years with him and the other bus occupants, learning all of the aspects of writing and singing. After she left, she missed the life living on the road terribly. Rosanne missed her father more than before. The experience ignited her passion for music and strengthened her bond with her father. This is just one example of how art affects human relationships, and vice versa. Johnny Cash grew up in Kingsland, Arkansas. His entire family worked vigorously in the fields. He recalled that it wasn't always an easy life and together, they all felt the toll the hard work took on their spirits and physical strengths (moving cotton, hauling water). Music was their way of escape from the gloom as a group. Johnny Cash's mother would sing at night, and his family and workers would sing as they labored in the fields. He took in all of the music that enveloped in his life, as he understood the appreciation to uphold for music. Johnny held his first guitar at the age of twelve, and his mother noticed that he had a knack for song. The impact that Johnny Cash saw and felt that music made on him and his family, and the escape that it provided for them, perhaps gave him the respect and admiration for the art. Carl Perkins was among the people to go on the road with Johnny Cash, and whom Rosanne Cash spent time on tour with as well. Carl Perkins and Johnny Cash came together as musicians, and in other words it was the music that brought them together. Carl Perkins is a big contributor to the history of rock-and-roll. He is also famous for being one of the original rockabilly musicians in America. In January of 1965, he joined Johnny Cash's road show, whom he was friends with at the time. Carl composed songs for Johnny to sing, and a couple of those compositions became quite famous. He stayed with Johnny Cash for some ten years, learning guitar techniques and ways, sometimes playing on his own, and wrote more songs. Carl Perkins wrote music up to nearly the 1970's until his brother passed away. Johnny Cash and Carl Perkins befriended one another because of music. It was something that the two of them understood, had an appreciation for, and knew they could learn from each other in. Everyone has a strength or weakness, even in the talents they are gifted with. Since both men knew this art and comprehended the strengths, weaknesses, and requisites of it, they were able to turn to each other for friendship and assistance. Carl turned to Johnny for help on guitar, and Johnny at times turned to Carl for help on writing songs. It was a bond, a trust in each other as friends and as professionals. Personally, I also feel like art has bonded me with people that otherwise I may not have become friends with. For example, one of my best friends and myself met at a rock concert we both attended. We had a love for music and bands, so while we waited for many, many hours in line on the streets of Detroit we got to talk quite a bit. To make time go by a bit faster, we listened to music together and just quickly became friends. She's from Pennsylvania and I live in Ohio but every now and then we still pick a concert to go to just to hang out. It was nice to have a friend who understood my feelings. I have many others like that back home. Probably another confidant in art would be my uncle, Tom. My uncle Tom and myself's relationship is much like Rosanne Cash and her father's. It wasn't until I was about five years old that I got to be around Tom so much.
