Open Question: Advance ticket I can't use anymore, what can I do with it?

I have an advance ticket from Brighton to Aberdeen for Christmas eve. I was supposed to be flying back boxing day with Brittish Airways (which has its obvious problems) Since my return date is not optional, I just have to cancel my flights, and this close to christmas wont get another due to price. What can I do with the advance ticket? Its non-refundable but...maybe east coast could do like credit or something? I know it sounds stupid but I feel like I should try, its a £120 ticket and I think its safe to say BA will do whatever they can to get out of compensating it. Thanks :)
