Open Question: Friend wants an arranged marriage and keeps asking her reluctant family about it and wants me to support her?First of all, she's Chinese and I knew her for many years, she's my best friend. And that's the only thing I never knew about her until recently. She had been saying on end she's not ready for dating, wait for later. Never knew this was the real reason why she wouldn't date. Thought she was one of them who will only find out she's ready if she happens to falls in love someday but doesn't spend efforts looking for someone. Well a couple of months ago when she came up to me in tears. She said that she asked her parents (and grandparents) to find her a husband and they first thought she was joking about it (not to mention the ridicule she got from the rest of the family), but she kept at it saying no, that is what she wants and asks them to please find someone. I said, are you serious, and to come on this is not a joke, no one wants an arranged marriage. It upsetted her again and said that I was not being a good friend to her. Well from after years of being knowing her well, I was kind of stunned. I realised she didn't sound as if she was joking - I know her cues, she wasn't joking around about it. I asked her why and if she ever thought about all the problems such marriages can be. She said of course, she knows all the problems, but she says it's just what it is, nothing can be perfect. But that's the way she prefers her life. She also said she first thought of it since she was 11. And since then she had been looking into it and understanding it. She's 27 years old now by the way and she says that she's serious and thought it over for all those years and it's what she really wants. I told her what if it causes problems, she said then problems it is, but it's her choice, she'll be happy no matter what happens. Well we had a long discussion about arranged marriages and such. Eventually I got her to think about it again and she went back home. I didn't hear for her for a couple of days and she wasn't answering her phone when I tried to call her (believe it or not, I never got her home number. she lives with a huge extended family and there's only one phone line in her home and it's reserved for other uses so it's always cell.) and she never came online. She lives far from me so it wasn't very convenient for me to go visit as I have a much tighter schedule than her and I can't spend an hour and a half travelling back and forth. Anyway it was a week later when I finally got in touch with her again. She says she's thought over it, and says her decision is the same and is going to talk to her parents again. Well, I tried reasoning with her again, but ultimately she's a person of her own, I can't make her do things or not do things. So up to now she keeps trying to ask her family over and over again. Even with her huge family trying to dissuade her, she keeps asking for an arranged marriage. Every time she talks to me she keeps trying to ask me for help on trying to get her family to listen to her pleas. And she hates it when I try to dissuade her just like her family does so sometimes I'd try to say okay if it's what you want then hopefully someday it'll happen. I want her to be happy, but her idea of this is a little out of it don't you think? I know, I don't control her life, so sometimes I'd tell her how about we stop talking about this idea for a while. But she doesn't want to. And I can't really actually support her on this. What could I do? The people known as the Maya lived in the region that is now eastern and southern Mexico, Guatemala , El Salvador, and western Honduras. The Maya originated around 2600 B.C. and rose to prominence around 250 A.D. They thrived for more than 2,000 years. The Maya built massive stone pyramids, temples, and sculptures, the Mayans developed a system of writing using hieroglyphs; and recorded their achievements in mathematics and astronomy. Archaeologists long believed that Maya culture reached its highest development from about ad 300 to 900, during what is known as the Classic period. Recent discoveries in northern Guatemala, however, have challenged that assumption. There, archaeologists have found highly developed cities, sophisticated art, and examples of Maya writing that date from as early as 600 years before the Classic period began. After 900 the Maya mysteriously declined in the southern lowlands of Guatemala. They later revived in the north on the Yucatán Peninsula and continued to dominate the area until the Spanish conquest in the 16th century. Descendants of the Maya still form a large part of the population of the region. Although many have adopted Spanish ways, a significant number of modern Maya maintain traditional cultural practices. From about ad 790 to 889, Classic Maya civilization in the lowlands collapsed. Construction of temples and palaces ceased, and monuments were no longer erected. The Maya abandoned the great lowland cities, and population levels declined drastically, especially in the southern and central lowlands. Scholars debate the causes of the collapse, but they are in general agreement that it was a gradual process of disintegration rather than a sudden dramatic event. A number of factors were almost certainly involved, and the precise causes were different for each city-state in each region of the lowlands. Among the factors that have been suggested are natural disasters, disease, soil exhaustion and other agricultural problems, peasant revolts, internal warfare, and foreign invasions. Whatever factors led to the collapse, their net result was a weakening of lowland Maya social, economic, and political systems to the point where they could no longer support large populations. Open Question: My bf has always been very happy go lucky. Now he doesn't care about anything, and he says hes not depressed.?We've been dating for about a year and I've known him for over 3. He's always been very caring, optimistic, and happy. We've been having some problems in our relationship lately but I thought it was just normal problems every relationship has to go through at one point or another. Now he says that he only feels like he cares about me, but he's not really sure about anything anymore. He seems depressed to me, but if I bring it up he denies it and says that he just has a new permanent way of thinking. He also said he's not sure if he loves me anymore or if he even thinks we should be together, and that he doesn't deserve me and that he's not worth. I've never seen him act like this in all the time I've known him and I'm sure that it's the first time it's happened to him. What should I do? Open Question: My Computer is having Several Issues, can someone please help me figure this out?i am at work right now and this just happend last night w/ my personal computer so i dont have many details. but here is what i have. im using windows vista on a dell e520 or something like that, desktop 1. i tried installing a game which wouldnt work for w/e reason, so i went to uninstall it and it said to restart my computer. so i did. 2. when it restarted, i logged into my main account as normal, and all my icons were gone (except for the recycle bin), the task bar was gray (as if from windows 98), and an error message popped up, which i dont recall now but i will add that later on. 3. thinking this might be a 1 time, quick fix problem, i restarted my computer again..but this time the log in screen never showed up. the mouse arrow was on an all black screen. and it would stay like that for a long period of time, then the log in screen will show up and bring me back to the point above this (#2) 4.), i then started the computer in safe mode, restored the comp to an earlier date, and then still the same problems were occuring. i dont know how to fix this and i really hope someone has some good advice to help me out. ***all my files and data, (icons, pictures, programs, videos, documents, etc), are accesible when i start the computer in safe mode so i know they arent lost*** PLEASE HELP!! Open Question: FEDEX PACKAGE STOLEN?was my fedex package stolen or not? because i tracked it today and it said it was delivered on december 4 but when i tracked it yesterday it said estimated delivery date was december 7 so yea the problem now is when i track it says package was delivered on december 4 so was it stolen or not? what should i do? should i wait to see if it gets delivered on december 7 or what? Open Question: i think i'm too scared to be in a relationship.. :( ?!?basically i've met the most perfect boy for me. He's taken me out on some really lovely dates and i am totally into him. I think my problem is my ex. (dont you just hate them!!!) well this boy is the first since my 3 year relationship with my ex, now my ex used me and hurt me and made me feel worthless like i deserved nothing. Thank you :) Open Question: i have a due date problem?Everytime i see a Doctor or have an ultrasound my due date changes i have never had a consitant date.May 25th was my last full period , june 25&26th i had a brown-ish dishcarge which i thought was spotting. My family doctor seems to think i had a period in june , and has been trying to say june 15th which would make me due the 22nd of march yet i didnt have a drop of blood at that time. i had my 20 week ultrasound November 9th the tech said i was around 20 21 weeks ( i could be further being all babies grow & develop differently at their own speed right ) my family doctor said from my ultrasound i was 22 weeks then. But if i had my "period" june 25th it wouldnt make sense for me to be over 20 weeks at my scan i would have only been around 17 by the june 25th date. My obgyn is going by my family doctor because he hasnt been taking the time with me trying to explain anything at alll about this & i know that if your dates change by 2 weeks they wont tell you either way but i think im more than 2 weeks ahead of where they are putting me . Going by the may 25th period i would be 27 weeks 6 days due march 1st , if i go by june 15th like my doctors say i would be 24 weeks 6 days due march 22nd & the june 25th period i would be 23 weeks 3 days due april 1st So does anyone have an idea when i would be due ? please help me , im dying not to have more of a idea when i will be due More Recent Articles
