Open Question: help MAYAN DECLINE AND DISSAPEARANCE HELP?I making a 30 min presenation on the mayans decline and dissapearance, does anyone know where i can find info on different theroies that happened or something? and info on it? because i just put a pic on the powerpoint than i talk about it, so far my intro is done The Mayans were a Mesoamerican Civilization, an ancient Native American culture that represented one of the most advanced civilizations in the western hemisphere before the arrival of the Europeans. The people known as the Maya lived in the region that is now eastern and southern Mexico, Guatemala , El Salvador, and western Honduras. The Maya originated around 2600 B.C. and rose to prominence around 250 A.D. They thrived for more than 2,000 years. The Maya built massive stone pyramids, temples, and sculptures, the Mayans developed a system of writing using hieroglyphs; and recorded their achievements in mathematics and astronomy. Archaeologists long believed that Maya culture reached its highest development from about ad 300 to 900, during what is known as the Classic period. Recent discoveries in northern Guatemala, however, have challenged that assumption. There, archaeologists have found highly developed cities, sophisticated art, and examples of Maya writing that date from as early as 600 years before the Classic period began. After 900 the Maya mysteriously declined in the southern lowlands of Guatemala. They later revived in the north on the Yucatán Peninsula and continued to dominate the area until the Spanish conquest in the 16th century. Descendants of the Maya still form a large part of the population of the region. Although many have adopted Spanish ways, a significant number of modern Maya maintain traditional cultural practices. From about ad 790 to 889, Classic Maya civilization in the lowlands collapsed. Construction of temples and palaces ceased, and monuments were no longer erected. The Maya abandoned the great lowland cities, and population levels declined drastically, especially in the southern and central lowlands. Scholars debate the causes of the collapse, but they are in general agreement that it was a gradual process of disintegration rather than a sudden dramatic event. A number of factors were almost certainly involved, and the precise causes were different for each city-state in each region of the lowlands. Among the factors that have been suggested are natural disasters, disease, soil exhaustion and other agricultural problems, peasant revolts, internal warfare, and foreign invasions. Whatever factors led to the collapse, their net result was a weakening of lowland Maya social, economic, and political systems to the point where they could no longer support large populations. Another result was the loss of great amounts of knowledge relating to Maya religion and ritual. BUT I NEED HELP? HE said i can explain the mayans and what they did? Suddenly, this dude now wants to be with her she claims and she still hasnt tested it. -She tells me to call her all the time she never calls me and I am always round hers. For example, she only came to mine when she argued with her sister. -If she runs out of money on a night out, she will go straight home. Also, I tried to set her up on a date with my friend and she ignored him all night until she wanted a drink. - Then last night, a girl who doesnt reallly like me said "are you ditching me for Marissa?" (I am Marissa) and Natasha said "No, you know i'd never do that"..also, a new girl turned up and suddenly I am ignored.. I know you're probably thinking I should find new friends but its tough where I live because its a close community and everyone knows everyone, so if i lose her as a friend.. I will lose everyone. I cant talk to her about this coz she will totally take it the wrong way. What do I do? Also what do you think of her? I'm dreading it now since she has this guy. I'm social and outgoing, and I LOOOOOVE music and movies. I think musicians are way hot, but I also need intelligent conversation, so that rules out 99% of them LOL. Also, I like tall boys with dark eyes. I'm usually a straight forward and fearless girl, but for some reason around him I can't help being shy. A little about him: He's 23 and in med school. He also is an amazing singer/guitarist with a deep crooning voice kind of like Ville Valo's (so hotttt). He can be a little weird and goofy sometimes, but it's in that interesting and fun way that makes me laugh. Plus, he's 6'1, so basically he fits all my criteria hahaha :P The only real problem is that he's so busy all the time because of school and music and sports that I probably wouldn't get to see him very often. He is extremely caring and we have relatively good communication. The only thing that is a problem is the fact that I sometimes feel secret feelings of wanting to date other people. It's not a situation of "you love him but you are not in love with him"...I think it is more of a timing thing. I'm still in college with lots of temptation that makes me want to date around, and my boyfriend is long out of college and wants a relationship that will lead to marriage.
