A ton. They have TV deals and merchandising that affords them that privilege. When a team spends that kind of money it's hard to keep up with them. However, you have to give Ol' George some credit. He doesn't just pocket all of the money he brings in. He puts it back into his team. Other teams cannot make that same claim. There are teams like Florida, Tampa, Colorado, Kansas City, and Pittsburgh whose payroll is embarrassing. Each of these teams have payrolls under $50 million. 26 Kansas City Royals $47,294,000 27 Pittsburgh Pirates $46,717,750 28 Colorado Rockies $41,233,000 29 Tampa Bay Devil Rays $35,417,967 30 Florida Marlins $14,998,500 Now take a look at the revenue sharing money these teams received (link here): Tampa Bay Devil Rays-$33 Toronto Blue Jays -$31 Florida Marlins-$31 Kansas City Royals-$30 Detroit Tigers-$25 Pittsburgh Pirates-$25 Colorado Rockies-$16 Tampa took in $33 million last year and spent $35 million on their payroll. Basically the Yankees paid their players. The owners could collect on the ticket sales and merchandising. Toronto and Detroit got a good chunk of change, but their payrolls ($72 million and $83 million respectivley) are 14th and 16th meaning they are putting some of it back into ply. Florida's is the most criminal. Taking in $31 million and spending $15 million is a joke. They have a lot of good, young players though so their payroll should increase before they cut again. That seems to be their pattern. They ramp up for a run every five years, tear it apart, and start over. They have two rings so it's working. How ethical is it for their fans? Probably not very. Kansas City gets a good chunk of change, and they at least spend some of it. They have a lot of good, young talent as well. Unlike Florida they never make the run. They develop future MVP candidates (Beltran, Dye, and Damon to name a few). The Pirates and the Rockies get a fair share of dough from the spenders, but their payroll remains among the bottom feeders. They aren't as bad as some of the teams, but how long has it been since either one was competitive. Yes, the Yankees spend a ton of cash. They also spent an additional $76 million in revenue sharing. Some of that money was put back in. Plenty of it was pocketed. One funny thing I noticed was the Cubs spent $32 million and Seattle spent $25 million in revenue sharing. How would you like to be their fans wondering how a team could be so bad with all of that money. So what do you think is worse? Spending a ton of money on your team or your team pocketing the cash the high rollers gave them without attempting to improve your team? I say the guys that are pocketing the cash are worse. I am using the English alphabet. Okay what meaningful contributions have Muslims and Arabs made to humanity? America has to save the day again, will the Muslims pay us back? Okay seriously, why are the Muslims so uncivilized? Do they have any developed cities? Or do they all live in stone villages wearing turbans and unshaven faces gathering around statues screaming "Allah"? If they were to just let America take control of their resources and political institutions, we could give them a better life! Why don't they follow the superior American way!? No other country has done so much good in the world. We civilized the Red Indian savages, gave them Casinos, Invited the blacks form Africa to construct our early economy and infrastructure, Defeated the evil Japs in WW2, saved the world hundreds of times from Sharia Law and communism, etc. Why do the Muslims expect us to save them? We need to civilize them and make Christians of them because they won't save themselves. They should take responsibility and not expect America to do it for them. Sheesh! So many uncivilized people that need to be saved! They probably don't even understand what I am talking about! Open Question: Airport delays because of weather?I will be flying at: Detroit, Roanoke and Atlanta airports over the christmas period.
