Open Question: With the NHL season over a third of the way through, who are your 16 Playoff Teams? The 2010 NHL Playoffs are still four months away(April 15, 2010) but with the regular season over a third of the way through, you can tell the good teams from the bad unless it's a case like the Red Wings or Flyers have with all their injuries. With that being said, here are my 16 Playoff Teams. EASTERN CONFERENCE: 1 WASHINGTON CAPITALS (51-17-14; 116 PTS)---Presidents Trophy Winner, Only question is goaltending. 8 PHILADELPHIA FLYERS (40-37-5; 85 PTS)---So many injuries, but they sneak in thanks to a weak East. 2 NEW JERSEY DEVILS (55-23-4; 114 PTS)---Marty Brodeur can steal a series and what a game-changer. 7 OTTAWA SENATORS (41-30-11; 93 PTS)---Without Dany Heatley complaining, it's working in Ottawa. 3 BUFFALO SABRES (49-24-9; 107 PTS)---Ryan Miller can be one of those goalies to lead their team deep. 6 ATLANTA THRASHERS (44-29-9; 97 PTS)---Ilya Kovalchuk is finally back in the Playoffs, no sweep now. 4 PITTSBURGH PENGUINS (53-24-5; 111 PTS)---The defending Champions are looking for Back-2-Back. 5 BOSTON BRUINS (43-26-13; 99 PTS)---Looking for their first Cup win since 1971-72. WESTERN CONFERENCE 1 CHICAGO BLACKHAWKS (52-24-6; 110 PTS)---Goaltending is the only thing that could spell their doom. 8 DALLAS STARS (37-22-23; 97 PTS)---Possibly Mike Modano's last season and last chance for glory. 2 SAN JOSE SHARKS (47-19-16; 110 PTS)---Looking to end their streak of first and second round exits. 7 DETROIT RED WINGS (43-28-11; 97 PTS)---Injuries spell their 7 seed, but a complete team when healthy. 3 CALGARY FLAMES (47-24-11; 105 PTS)---Iginla and Kip want a Cup and this is their best shot Post-2004. 6 COLORADO AVALANCHE (42-25-15; 99 PTS)---Many are surprised how well Colorado has gelled. 4 LOS ANGELES KINGS (50-24-8; 108 PTS)---The true surprise 2010 Playoff Team, especially a 4-seed. 5 PHOENIX COYOTES (46-29-7; 99 PTS)---Bankruptcy doesn't take away the heart of the Coyotes. There are my 16 Playoff Picks for the 2010 Playoffs. Many are picking the Caps vs. Hawks in the final. While that would be an intriguing matchup and a classic final, I question both teams' goaltending. Varlamov is now on the IR. Prior to his injury, he was great posting a 12-1-2 record and a 2.21 GAA. In the 2009 Playoffs, Varlamov played in 13 games posting a 2.53 GAA which isn't bad, but probably isn't good enough to win the Cup, even with Washington's explosive potent offense. Huet is playing great posting a 2.18 GAA in 24 games, however, in the 2009 Playoffs, he played in three games posting a 3.23 GAA. Again, that average will be very difficult for the Hawks to overcome, even with their great offense. If they each improve their goaltending by around half a goal, I can see this being our Stanley Cup Final. If that were the case, I would want Chicago to win. Coming from a Detroit fan, I loved Hossa when he was here, and I want him to get a Cup. I don't expect the Wings to win the Cup this season, especially with all their injuries. Maybe their injuries are a blessing in disguise. I love my Wings, but I don't think this is their year..but they can definitely surprise some people if they can get healthy. Other surprise teams can be LA, Colorado, and Buffalo. But once you're in the Playoffs, anything can happen. Open Question: Sights to see driving across the US?I'm planning a roadtrip from the Detroit area, to California. I wanted to go through the Northern states on the way there; I have a friend in Montana I want to stay one night with. On the way home, I want to drive through the south, stopping to visit friends in Arizona and in Arkansas. Since I'm driving across the whole country, I want to see as many awesome sights as possible in between each friend I visit! Any cool ideas, I have no idea what's on the way; or what's worth going OUT of my way! It will be in the summer, and we will have several drivers. I plan on having to stay in hotels when I'm not visiting friends. I just don't know where to go! More Recent Articles
